Patil to visit Nagaland, Meghalaya
New Delhi, May 12: With security situation in Nagaland continued to be a cause of worry, Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will embark on a two-day tour to the northeast to take stock of the situation there.
His visit to the violence-hit Nagaland comes close on the heels of state Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio accusing the Centre of not having any policy in holding talks with the Nagaland insurgent groups, which were causing problems for the administration.
The state has witnessed killing of over 20 people since march this year threatening to disturb the peace talks between the Naga rebels and the Centre.
Home Ministry officials said Patil would hold discussion with the state governor and Chief Minister at Kohima. However, he was unlikely to make any policy announcement about the prospects of the Centre's talks with the Naga outfits as it was handled separately by Centre's interlocutor K Padmanabiah.
Patil would also be visiting a relatively peaceful Meghalaya. He would also be inspecting fencing along the international border.
