Nagaland govt. lands UN award
Dimapur, May 17 (TEN): The Government of Nagaland has been selected to receive the United Nations Public Service award for community services and innovative social institutionalization. The Nagaland government is the only award winner in Asia and Pacific region and one among twelve awards selected globally in different areas of public service. The government was selected for its programmes of communitization of public institutions and services under the category of fostering participation in policy-making decisions through innovative mechanisms.
It was informed that the said award will be received by representatives of Nagaland government, at the United Nations Public Service Day to be held in New York, US, on June 23. A communiqué was received by the state government from former chief secretary of Nagaland RS Pandey. The communiqué observed that the guidance and leadership provided by Neiphiu Rio, Nagaland Chief Minister, has been critical at all stages of the communitization programmes. He also observed that the award is an honor for the people of Nagaland whose social capital and its use in improving grass-root level services is being recognized internationally.
