Demand for probe into Global University Nagaland
Dimapur, May 11 (TEN): The N. Longidang citizens of Dimapur, Kohima and Wokha alleged that there are some ‘vested interested’ persons forging the signature of Dr M Motsuo Ngullie, ‘the true founder of the University’, and made claims for crores of rupees and drawn as grants-in-aid from Distance Education Council (DEC) submitted to University Grants Commission (UGC) and also from other University funding agency in the guise of purchasing properties.
A statement posted in the website kuknalim.com, which was appended by the N. Longidang Union of three districts; Kohima, Dimapur and Wokha, said that the three unions convened a joined meeting at Wokha on 29th January 2008 and thoroughly examined all the relevant documents in connection with the opening of the Global Open University in Nagaland. It said that the records available clearly proved that the University was bought by none other than its bonafide citizen Dr. M. Motsuo Ngullie ‘who had been appointed by the Vice Chancellor of the University’.
However, the statement alleged it has been found that there are some vested interested person(s) who claim that the University was bought by them with the ulterior motives of making quick money for which claims of crores of rupees have been made and drawn as grants-in-aid from Distance Education Council (DEC) submitted to University Grants Commission (UGC) and also from other University funding agency in the guise of purchasing properties by forging the signature of Dr. M. Motsuo Ngullie. However, the government has not taken any action till date, the statement lamented.
The statement also alleged that it has also been found that Dr. M. Motsuo Ngullie, ‘the Vice Chancellor’ had been completely sidelined and removed unofficially from the post of Vice Chancellor and the correspondence for claim of grant-in-aid from DEC, New Delhi were made by forging his signatures.
“We have also found that a certain politician is making it as a political tool claiming that the University was bought by him in order to lure the voters with promises to employ them in the University,” the statement alleged.
In this regard, the three N. Longidang Unions stated that they have resolved that in the event of the failure of the government to inquire into the facts and bring out the truth, they will not remain silent spectator and will be compelled to seek justice in the court of law or file police case.
The statement posted in kuknalim.com was appended by N Longidang Union, Dimapur Chairman, Chiborao Ngullie; NLU, Kohima chairman, Abemo Kithan and NLU Wokha Acting Chairman, Nchumbemo Kikon.
It may be mentioned that the Global Open University, Nagaland had been established under the provisions of The Global Open University Act 2006 of the Government of Nagaland with a view to introducing vocational, job oriented and employment centric education in the North-East in general and in the State of Nagaland in particular. The State Government of Nagaland has taken bold steps in strengthening the activities of The Global Open University, Nagaland for enabling the World Institution Building Programme (WIBP) to develop adequate infrastructure in Nagaland in general and at Wokha, Kohima and Dimapur in particular.
However, with the allegations of the N Longidang Unions, everything might not be alright with the University.
